As anyone should know the Turks have occupied Greece, and therewith Krete, for many centuries.
The Greek people have struggled a lot to free themselves. The church of Arkádi shows that during 1866 a though fight has taken place.
Within the monastery you will find a memorial for a number of Krete people who died as a result of a kamikaze.
